Dr. Eben Alexander suffered from bacterial meningitis

Within a few hours, I went into a coma: my neocortex, the part of the brain that handles all the thought processes making us human, had shut down completely.

The doctor then woke up from his coma, and miraculously recovered. However, four months later, Dr. Alexander received a letter, informing him that his biological sister - he already knew he had been adopted - had died before he got a chance to meet her. At least, that's what he thought. Indeed, after finding a photograph of Betsy, his sister, he found out she had been the woman he met in Heaven. He concludes:

This is the story of how I was reunited with her - in heaven.
