Vet’s heartbreak as an evil dog owner orders his neglected pooch to be put down

When ‘the sweetest’ and ‘the most affectionate’ Whisky was brought to the vet practice, its callous owner wasn’t willing to give his neglected dog a chance but asked for it to be put down instead. The pet was in horrendous condition, could only walk on its knees, and had rotten teeth and a detached eye. But the vetwasn’t planning to give up on the innocent fur-ball.

Earlier this year the RSPCA Cornwallwas contacted by a vet. An owner brought their dog to the practice and asked for it to be put to sleep.

Despite being only 5 years old and looking like ‘the sweetest’ and ‘the most affectionate’ pup, Whisky was extremely neglected and suffered from a range of injuries and conditions.

The kindhearted vet wanted to give the pooch a chance and, luckily, the animal charity agreed to help.

Sadly, the dachshund was irresponsibly used for breeding and treated so poorly by its owner that he could only walk 'on knees'.

RSPCA Cornwall wrote on Facebook:

Five-year-old Whisky is one of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs we've ever met but hasn't had the start to life he deserved. When Whisky first came to us, he wasn't using his back legs properly, but after some pain relief, he quickly improved and started finding his feet.

Whisky will have to have his eye removed

‘Loving lad’ Whisky was taken under the RSPCA’s care with an extensive list of conditions - a detached retina, rotten teeth, weak back legs, and issues with his spine.

But within just a few short days of receiving the pain relief, he was able to walk on his feet again and has ‘gone from strength to strength’ within his foster home.

Unfortunately, he is likely to require further surgery, spinal or rear leg support, and will need his eye and the majority of his teeth removed.

The charity has issued an appeal in a bid to find a perfect family for this resilient sausage dog and to raise some funds that would cover its vet care. You can donate to JustGiving for Whisky here.

The RSPCA commented:

The super sweet sausage dog can fit into most homes, so could live with children and other pets, but sadly he cannot live with cats (we have tried this).

They invite the families that ‘have the time, patience and financial stability to support Whisky down the line’ to apply for adopting this incredible pooch who has been through so much already.
