Oat M!lk Chocolate Bars (80g), which are sold at Tesco have been urgently recalled by food safety authorities in the UK due to it having an undisclosed ingredient.

Food products are recalled by food safety authorities if it poses any kind of health risks to consumers, either due to allergy risks because of omission of ingredients from the label, or due to incorrect labelling.

As reported by Express, the UK’s Food Standards Agency or FSA had issued an urgent allergy alert and recall for 80g pack sizes of Oat M!lk Chocolate Bars, which is produced by the company Happi Free From.

The reason mentioned for the recall is that the chocolate bar contains milk which has not been mentioned on the label. As per FSA,

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The product recalled comes in three different versions. They are,

  • Plain M!lk , 80 gm, Best before: October 2023
  • Salted Caramel, 80 gm, Best before: October 2023
  • Plain White, 80 gm, Best before: June 2023

Anyone who has already brought the product and cannot consume it due to the allergy risks, can return it to the store for a full refund.

Milk allergy health risks

According to Mayo Clinic, milk allergy is an atypical response of the body’s immune system to the consumption of milk. The severity of allergy can vary, and symptoms can range from mild to extremely serious.

Allergy symptoms could include wheezing, vomiting, hives, abdominal cramps, itching or digestive problems. In the most severe cases, milk allergy can even cause anaphylaxis — a severe and potentially fatal reaction.
