Lidl recalls this popular drink

Budget retail giant, Lidl has recalled a brand of beer, warning customers to not drink it. The Steward Brewing Crazy Haze – Hazy IPA is being removed from shelves as a precautionary measure after it was detected that the cans could ‘explode’ due to over-carbonation, Liverpool Echo reports.

'Do not drink'

The affected products include those with lot codes L1, L2, L3 and L4. The supermarket chain fears possible overpressure of cans may cause bulging and potential rupture due to over-carbonation. The recall is to prevent any injury that could be caused if the cans should explode.

The bargain retailer is urging customers who bought this product to return them to the stores for full refund or exchange as other lot codes of Stewart Brewing products were not affected by the recall.

Standard practice

When a product is recalled, the Food Standards Agency shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item. It also outlines information on why the product is being pulled from shelves. According to the UK government:

[Product recalls] are for specific products that have been sold in the UK and may require you to act to receive a free replacement, repair or refund from the manufacturer or a retailer.

Some reasons a manufacturer or retailer may recall a product include risk of allergic reactions, mislabelling and undisclosed ingredients or chemicals.

Consumers are usually advised not to open or drink/eat any product they bought which was later recalled. You would typically be entitled to full refund or an exchange if you return affected products even without a receipt.
