Donald Trump accuses Keir Starmer of interfering in the US election

Donald Trump is doing the final prep work for the presidential race before the voting starts on November 5. The former President has been attending several rallies and has many more planned, mainly focused in typically Republican states.

Trump, who did a staged campaign in McDonald's, has recently accused UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer of interfering in the US elections. Starmer has denied these claims and has openly talked about the situation.

Donald Trump accuses Keir Starmer of interfering

As reported by The Independent, Donald Trump’s campaign has filed a complaint with the US Federal Election Commission (FEC), accusing the Labour Party of ‘illegal foreign campaign donations’.

Trump’s campaign has stated that the Labour Party has ‘inspired’ his opponent’s ‘dangerously liberal policies’. The campaign’s co-manager Susie Wiles claimed in a statement:

The far-left Labour Party has inspired Kamala’s dangerously liberal policies and rhetoric.

Wiles adds that Labour has sent members to the US to campaign for Kamala Harris in ‘critical battleground states’ in hopes of ‘influencing the election’.

In recent weeks, they have recruited and sent party members to campaign for Kamala in critical battleground states, attempting to influence our election.

The former President’s complaint includes a report suggesting that Morgan McSweeney, Sir Keir Starmer’s chief of staff, and Matthew Doyle, his director of communications, ‘attended a convention in Chicago and met with Ms Harris’s campaign team’.

The complaint also cites a deleted LinkedIn by post Sofia Patel, head of operations at the Labour Party, who allegedly wrote that ‘nearly 100’ Labour members, both current and retired, would be in the US to campaign for Harris, as per The Independent.

Trump’s lawyers have argued that this support can be classed as ‘contributions’ from foreign actors, which violates US campaign finance laws.

Keir Starmer responds to Trump’s accusation

As Donald Trump’s campaign accuses Keir Starmer, the latter has denied any interference in the election, explaining that the members of his party are doing what they’ve done in previous elections.

Starmer told reporters, as per The Independent:

That’s what they’ve done in previous elections, is what they’re doing in this election. And that’s really straightforward.

Moreover, according to The Independent, there is no evidence that the Labour Party has made any financial contributions to the Democratic Party. In previous presidential races, Labour members helped Democrats while Tory members helped the Republicans. Therefore, it isn’t unusual for Labour members to be in the US, and Starmer has assured that they are there on a voluntary basis.
