A McDonald's customer put up photos of what he witnessed at a McDonald's, leaving other diners concerned about food safety and sanitation issues at the restaurant.

Food safety violation by restaurants is a major issue since it is so central to consumer health. Though there are specific laws in place to ensure that restaurants prepare and serve their food in the most hygienic conditions possible, many fast-food customers still end up getting the wrong end of the deal, like this customer who found a nasty surprise inside her daughter's McSpicy burger.

Now, as reported by Mirror, a customer spotted 'seven rats' going in and out of a McDonald's bin, and shared photos of it on social media in order to raise question of sanitation and vermin control at the restaurant.

Horrified McDonald's customer spots rats

The McDonald's customer allegedly witnessed a McDonald's bin with many rats crawling all over it on March 12. The incident happened at McDonald's branch in Holderness Road, Hull.

The customer told Hull Live,

I am aware that where there are fast food places and where there is food waste, there will be vermin, but this is something else. This isn't good vermin control when you can witness this in broad daylight.

The customer also alleges that also they witnessed a McDonald's staff at the restaurant handle the bin without wearing any PPE.

Reaction of other McDonald's customers to the incident

The photo clicked by the customer made it to social media, generating disgust and dissatisfaction among McDonald's diners about the steps taken by the restaurant for vermin control.

The comment on the post states,

Feel free to share before someone gets seriously unwell!!! Rat for tea anyone?! Well to be precise 7 rats!! Talk about vermin control?!

After seeing this, I will NOT be using McDonald's on Holderness Road. A member of staff went and changed the bin bag without any PPE on and returned into the restaurant.

The statement issued by McDonald's states that they have carried out three litter patrols to address the issue of pest control. The company states,

We take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously. Pest control experts recently carried out a routine inspection of the site and confirmed there has been no evidence of pest-related activity in the restaurant.

We are working with the landlords to proactively manage any potential challenges arising from the nearby railway area. The restaurant itself has not been impacted.
