The Queen has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games due to her ongoing mobility issues. Her son, Prince Charles steps in once again.

The Commonwealth Games are an annual sporting event for the countries that are a part of the Commonwealth. This year, the Games will be in Birmingham. The Queen has pulled out of the event and the Prince of Wales will take her place.

The Queen won’t attend

The Queen, 96, has been experiencing ‘episodic mobility problems as explained by the Palace. As a result, the Queen hasn’t been able to attend every event and often sends Prince Charles to represent her.

This year, the Games will be in Birmingham starting on July 28. By then, the Queen will likely be holidaying in Scotland according to DailyMail. The journey from Scotland to Birmingham could be ‘considered too taxing for her’.

Other Royals will be present

Despite the Queen not attending, the Commonwealth Games won’t be short of Royalty. Indeed, Prince Charles will be at the opening ceremony and he will also be going to Rwanda this month (June) for the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting. Since the Games are in Britain this year, many other members of the Royal Family will attend.

DailyMail reports that TheCambridges will ‘likely attend’ a couple of days of the event. The Earl and Countess of Wessex will likely make appearances as Prince Edward is Vice Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation - the Queen is the patron. Princess Anne may also make an appearance.

The Queen left a secret message

Even though the Queen won’t attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, she will be a part of the ceremony. Indeed back in October 2021, the Queen participated in the ‘Queen’s Baton Relayat Buckingham Palace with her youngest child, Prince Edward.
