Meghan Markle reveals the downside of taking a job to pay her bills

Early in her acting career, when Meghan Markle was a model on Deal or No Deal holding up briefcase number 24. While the role was entirely unlike Meghan’s current personality or preferences, she still did it to kick start her career and pay her bills as a student at Northwestern University.

It’s a no Deal

Talking to fashion influencer Paris Hilton on her recent podcast Archetypes, she looked back on the very first role she took in her ‘acting’ career. Claiming that it objectified her and made her feel like a ‘bimbo,’ she claimed the role was ‘solely about beauty and not necessarily about brains.’

According to Hello Magazine, Meghan was constantly told by a lady on the show to ‘suck it in’ and given spray tan vouchers each week. She confessed on the podcast:

I ended up quitting the show. Like I said, I was thankful for the job but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart.

She also added:

And by the way, I was surrounded by smart women on that stage with me. But that wasn't the focus of why we were there. And I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach, knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.

I didn't like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance. And that's how it felt for me at the time, being reduced to this specific archetype.

Need of the hour

Meghan revealed that she only took the job because she wanted to start her acting career. According to her, the job could ‘pay’ her bills. She added:

I had income, I was part of the Union, I had health insurance, it was great.

However, she always looked back on her previous work experience as an intern at the US Embassy in Argentina, in Buenos Aires. She was in the motorcade with the Secretary of Treasury and was valued for her brain. Meanwhile, at Deal or No Deal, she said:

Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite.
