Indeed just before he landed his role as Iron Man, the actor had been in prison for failing to attend a court-ordered drug test, which led him to be fired from Ally McBeal in 2001. However, when he got the role of Tony Stark in Iron Man, it turned his life around for the better and he has been clean and sober since 2003.

Rober Downey Jr started with $2.5 million
When Downey Jr got the role of Iron Man in 2008, he earned $2.5m (£2m). Marvel had taken a risk when hiring Downey considering the scandal. In the end, the risk paid off as the film grossed $585m (£485).
More under this adMore under this adThen, when he starred in the first Avengers film in 2013, he earned a whopping $50m (£41.5m). The actor also became the highest-paid actor that year as he earned a percentage of the film’s box office profits which amounted to $1.5 billion (£1.2 billion).
The actor then earned $75m for his roles in Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. As he continued to interpret Tony Stark, Downey’s income continued to increase. Indeed for Captain America: Civil War, he earned $33m (£27.4m).

Robert Downey Jr continues to climb the pay ladder
The Avengers franchise continued to grow, and so did Robert Downey Jr’s paycheck. When he starred in Spiderman: Homecoming he earned $48m (£39m). Downey’s biggest paychecks came from the third Avengers film.

Then for the last one, Avengers: Endgame he had a base salary of $20m (£16.6m) and then earned another $55m (£45m) for the ticket sales of the film, which then became the highest-grossing film in history with an impressive $2.8 billion (£2.3 billion) at the box office.
