Sexual health: Does the size of the vagina matter during intercourse?

On average, the vagina measures between 6 and 8 centimetres, from its opening at the vulva, consisting of the upper and lower lips, to the tip of the cervix. Of course, each person is different, so sizes may differ. It should be noted that these figures were taken at 'rest.' This means that the vagina can grow when you are aroused.

The vagina: an elastic organ

At first glance, it seems that the penis and the vagina have nothing in common. However, this is not entirely true, as they do have one thing in common. When a person is aroused, the penis becomes erect and gains several centimetres. With the vagina, the same system applies. When the temperature rises, its length can double in size and reach between 11 and 12 centimetres.

Indeed, when a foreign body penetrates it, the vagina will adapt its diameter. Its elasticity allows it to adjust to the size of the penetrating body.

Does the size of the vagina matter?

As explained, the vagina adapts to the size of the penetrating object. Penis, fingers, sex toys, it's all the same. A change that allows penetration during sexual intercourse. So its size is not important in the pleasure equation.

That said, even if the vagina becomes longer, there is a good chance that the penis will not be able to penetrate it fully.

Be careful, if your partner notices regular pain during intercourse, you should not hesitate to seek advice. There may be underlying problems such as vaginismus or a retroverted uterus.
