Alluding to a betrayal
Ponomarev served as a Russian Parliamentarian between 2007 and 2016. He was the only politician to vote against the invasion of Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Ponomarev told Newsweek this week in Kyiv that he thinks Putin's inner circle will betray and turn on him before his next birthday:

A desire to see Putin in court
Ponomarev expressed a desireto see Putin be sued by the International Criminal Court (ICC):
My personal dream obviously is to see him in The Hague but I don't think that he will make it.
The ICC goes after those accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. It is located in the Dutch city of The Hague.

In recent months, there has been an orchestrated effort underway to investigate Russian actions in Ukraine which many analysts have described as 'systematic war crimes', Daily Mail reports.
