The report by Which? is done each month and compares 149 everyday items from 8 different supermarket chains, including Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose. Normally the price war is between Aldi and Lidl with all the larger chains being more expensive, however for the bigger shopping trip Adsa tops the list as the cheapest, as per The Sun.

As you can see from the list below, Waitrose comes in at a huge £38.03 more expensive than Asda so there are big savings to be had. As such, Which? crowned the chain as the ‘cheapest traditional supermarket’.

Average basket price

Asda - £355.34

Sainsbury's - £366.83

Tesco - £375.90

Morrisons - £377.83

Ocado - £380.44

Waitrose - £393.37

However, the other study in the report looked at a smaller shopping trolley that consisted of only 48 items and omitted a lot of the big brands. In this report, Aldi came out cheapest overall, only just beating Lidl by £1.36 but beating Waitrose by a shocking £26.90
