A shopper who brought home bananas from her local supermarket could not have prepared for the horrors it held inside.

Going grocery shopping in a supermarket is a very normal experience for most of us. You would not usually expect to be confronted by wildlife or insects there, and least of all, to come back home with fruits and vegetables containing live pests.

Waitrose shopper’s horrific banana experience

A woman from Leith in Edinburg returned home after a grocery run at her neighborhood Waitrose in Morningside. Once she unpacked her goods, she observed something strange on the bananas she brought. It contained a blister and as she took a closer look, to her shock, there were baby spiders crawling out of it.

She is quoted as saying,

I bought them from Waitrose, Morningside last Monday and noticed when I took them out of the wrapper that there was something odd. I thought finding spider's nests on shop-bought fruit was a urban myth but then I took a photo and zoomed in, you could see a spider crawling out.

Her husband checked the banana to confirm their worst fears. Besides the nasty surprise, the woman had concerns about whether the spiders were poisonous. She stated how lucky it was that she had taken the bananas out of the plastic before all the spiders inside hatched. She continues,

I’m so glad that I took the bananas out of the plastic, if I had left them in and my son had opened it the next day I have no doubt that all those spiders would have hatched and went everywhere - which doesn’t bare thinking about.

The mum stated that she has been put off of buying bananas after this experience. In order to get rid of possible spider infestation in the house owing to the fruits, she threw away the fruit and poured bleach and hot water on the spider nest.
