Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty reportedly 'poorer' than before, after losing £500K a day last year

The Sunday Times has released its annual Rich List, including 350 people and families, with a minimum of £350 million required to make the cut.

The number of billionaires in the UK has dropped for the first time in 14 years, as reported by the publication. In 2022, there were 177, while this year there are 171.

According to the publication, the list is based on identifiable wealth including land, property, other assets such as art, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies - however, it excludes bank accounts.

The list reveals that UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, are apparently poorer than they used to be.

At the top of the list is Gopichand Hinduja and family, whose wealth has risen from £6.53 billion to £35 billion.

This is the biggest fortune ever recorded on the list and comes after the death of his older brother and head of the family, Srichand Hinduja, only two days ago.

Coming in at number two is Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the chairman and chief executive officer of the INEOS chemicals group who has offered to buy Manchester United Football Club.

Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty poorer than they used to be

2022 was the first time Sunak and Murty made the list. At the time, their joint £730 million fortune placed them at number 222.

According to this year's list, the couple lost an average of £500,000 per day during the past year. The couple are now estimated to be £201 million poorer because of a decrease in the value of Murty's stake in her father's IT firm, Infosys. This means they have dropped to number 275 on the list.

However, the couple are still reportedly worth £529 million.
