Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov threatens to attack these countries next

The Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, appeared in a video this month where he delivered some chilling news. He stated that he is sure Russia will be successful in their war against Ukraine: 'I’m convinced 100 per cent we will win’.

Chechnya is a republic part of Russia where most of the population is Muslim. Kadyrov has been its leader since 2007 and when Russia invaded in February, Kadyrov supported Putin and announced his forces would join Putin’s in the war against Ukraine.

In the video, Kadyrov added that Russian victory in Ukraine would not mark the end of the fighting. Next, he wants to take the conflict to countries further north in Europe, such as Germany, Denmark and Sweden. Though he did not explicitly name these countries, his plan comes from a desire to defend and protect Islam. These countries are among those where copies of the Quran have been burnt publicly, and are therefore on Kadyrov’s hit list.

Burning of the Quran

There have been several recent instances of public burnings of the Quran, but one of the most well-reported happened in Sweden in June 2023, outside of the Stockholm Mosque. A 37-year-old Iraqi refugee ripped pages from the holy book which he set alight and stepped onin front of the building. Controversially, Swedish police granted permission for this protest which happened on the largest Islamic holiday ‘Eid Al-Adha’.

Other instances have been reported in Germany and Denmark, though the latter has proposed a law that would make public declaration of any holy book illegal.

Kadyrov’s son beat up man who burned Quran

Kadyrov’s video was released after another video emerged in which Chechnya’s minister for national policy, foreign relations and information, Akhmed Dudayev, spoke with pride about Kadyrov’s teenage son Adam.

Dudayev explains very calmly that Adam went with his father to a pre-trial detention centre where another young Russian, Nikita Zhuravel, was being held after a video was broadcast showing him holding a charred copy of the Quran in front of a mosque in the Russian city of Volograd.

According to Zhuravel, the 19-year-old student who was attacked, Adam was sent to his cell for the sole purpose of brutally beating him. Adam is 15. Many users on X are sharing photos of the round-faced young Adam and remarking that the 15-year-old wouldn’t have been able to take Zhuravel on in a fair fight.

Adam Kadyrov has been publicly praised for his actions.

Federal deputy Adam Delimkhanov wrote on Telegram that Kadyrov’s son ‘has demonstrated his patriotism and determination to defend religion’. Magomed Daudov, the Chair of the Chechen Parliament went one step further:

We not only understand him, we warmly support him…He has acted like a true Muslim, a true patriot and a true Chechen.
