Have you recently picked up some groceries at your local Lidl? Be aware: the discount supermarket has issued a recall for its popular product, McEnnedy Corn Dogs. The recall is in response to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause severe health risks.

These are the products affected, as listed by the Food Standards Agency: Lidl's McEnnedy Corn Dogs, available in a pack size of 530g. The affected batches have a Best Before date of 28 April 2024, 10 June 2024, and 10 August 2024.

Listeria monocytogenes poses potential health risks if consumed. The symptoms caused by this bacterium can initially mimic flu, including high temperature, muscle pain, chills, nausea, and diarrhea. However, in rare cases, the infection can escalate, leading to more severe complications such as meningitis.
Certain individuals are particularly susceptible to listeria infections, including pregnant women and their unborn babies, those above the age of 65, babies less than one month old, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
