Google has warned its users that it will delete their photos due to a major change next month and urged everyone to check their accounts for old data that could be permanently gone.

The tech giant is getting rid of Album Archive, a little-known feature that allows users to view and manage content from different Google products.

In many cases, Album Archive could still contain valuable digital assets, and people have only one month to move them elsewhere.

Google has sent out an alert email with a deadline of July 19 after which the photos and documents won’t be available anymore.

The message reads:

You're receiving this email because you've viewed Album Archive recently or you may have some content that is visible in Album Archive. Starting on 19 July 2023, Album Archive will no longer be available.

Google recommends using Google Takeout to download a copy of your Album Archive data before it’s too late.

Although the unpopular feature is mostly home to Google Hangouts data, as well as content from Blogger and Picassa, the advice can still be very valuable for many.

The hidden folder can contain some thumbnail photos and album comments or likes and background images you uploaded for Gmail.

The tech giant urges to once again check for any potential long-forgotten memories before the data is erased.
