The latest news from the Jan 6 trials is that Trump was behind a ‘fake electors scheme’, as reported by The Guardian. Indeed in the US, Democratic electors meet after the election to officially name the next president.

After the 2020 election, the electoral college grouped on December 14, 2020. As the Democratic electors met to formally name Joe Biden as the president, illegitimate Republican electors tried to partake.

These ‘electors’ were claiming that 7 ‘swing states’ named Trump as the winner, despite the votes saying Biden had won.

They tried to declare Trump the winner

These supposed electors had tried to claim that Trump had won in 7 states. When they arrived at the statehouse, they were met by state police who told them that ‘The electors are already here — they’ve been checked in,’ according to a video of the encounter.

The ‘fake electors’ signed fake election certificates that claimed they were the ‘duly elected and qualified’ electors attesting that Trump had won the election in their states, as reported by The Guardian.

How was Trump involved?

As reported by The Washington Post, Trump’s team had encouraged electors to meet and pressured the Vice President, Mike Pence,to cite the ‘alternate Trump slates’—slates are a group of candidates that run in multi-seat or multi-position elections on a common platform—according to documents found.

Committee member Adam B. Schiff said on CNN’s ‘State of the Union’:
