An abused American bulldog with a split tail and ears was found abandoned on the streets. The rescue charity is now appealing for information in a bid to find its cruel owner.

This neglected pup was covered in horrific sores and wounds when a kindhearted member of the public spotted and rescued him. Rushed to the vet, the pooch is now recovering on a course of antibiotics under the care of the RSPCA. The charity is searching for the heartless owner of this pup.

‘Covered in sores and scars’

The neglected two-year-old bulldog was picked up by a member of the public in Dewbury, England on September 11. The pup was covered in pressure sores and wounds that had scabbed over. His tail and ears were split. He was also 15 kilos underweight. According to the RSPCA, ‘there was no muscle’ on the pooch and ‘you could feel his ribs’ due to neglect.

Animal inspector Adam Dickinson said:

He was covered in sores and scars and one of his legs was swelling up. The sores were all over his body and it's thought they could be the result of him being kept on a concrete surface all the time.

The vets are not sure whether the bulldog may have been used for fighting. The type of cuts the pup has on its tail and ears are often found on animals involved in organised dog fighting. The activity is illegal in the UK. The charity hopes to trace the owner to see what has really happened.

The bulldog was rushed to a local vet. He's been put on a course of antibiotics and his tail and ear have been patched up. He responded well to the treatments.

The rescue pup will remain at the clinic while he continues to recover from his leg infection. The RSPCA considers matching him with a foster parent when he’s well and ready.

Even though the dog was microchipped to an address in Stevenage, England, the details appear incorrect or out of date, and the charity was unable to locate the owner.

The inspector said:

He's a really friendly dog who loves to play and it was so sad seeing the condition he'd been left in. We'd appreciate any information we can get as it's unclear how he came to be in this area.
