What is listeria monocytogenes?
Listeria monocytogenes, more commonly known simply as listeria, is a type of bacteria. If consumed, it can cause listeriosis, a type of food poisoning which causes flu-like symptoms. Listeria is most commonly found in unpasteurised dairy products, soft cheeses and chilled ready-to-eat foods such as deli meats, pâté and ready-made sandwiches.

However, listeria can be very serious for pregnant women, people over the age of 65, and people with weakened immune systems.
