McDonald's customers left horrified as 'huge rat' spotted in restaurant

McDonald's never fails to deliver surprises to its customers. While it is usually of the good kind, with new and exciting menu items or even news of secret sandwich that's only served at 10:35 AM, the brand is also not short on delivering fans the nasty kind of surprises.

Earlier, a McDonald's customer found a metal rod in his burger, while in another case, diners were left shook after a horrific incident involving a dead animal.

Now, a TikTok video has surfaced on the account @takeawaytrauma that shows both diners and staff at a McDonald's restaurant dealing with an uninvited and very unwelcome visitor.

'Giant rat' scurries across McDonald's restaurant

As reported by Daily Mail, the incident transpired in a McDonald's restaurant in Stratford, east London. The caption on the video says,

The video shows a 'huge rat' running across the restaurant as diners are eating their food. Meanwhile, staff at the restaurant can be seen chasing after the rodent, some of them armed with dustpan and brush. In the background, screams can be heard from shocked customers!

The video has clearly hit a nerve with people, as it has gone completely viral, having been viewed way over 2 million times already.

McDonald's reaction to the video

The video has left fast-food lovers appalled. One viewer asks,

Shouldn't the place be closed and refund?

As reported by Daily Mail, McDonald's has stated that following the incident, the restaurant was closed down and the place underwent a deep clean. Here's what its statement says,

Hygiene and cleanliness are of the utmost importance to us and following the sighting, the restaurant crew took immediate steps to rectify the situation.

The restaurant then closed so that it could undergo a deep clean of the area. Our external pest control experts were called out for an urgent precautionary inspection too and confirmed the site has no internal pest issues.

They will continue to provide regular routine checks of the restaurant and surrounding area which is standard practice and helps ensure the restaurant maintains its Food Hygiene Rating of 5.
