Teenager stabbed to death after fight over McDonald's sweet and sour sauce

As reported by Washington Post, a teenager was stabbed outside a McDonald's restaurant after an altercation with another girl.

The 16-year-old alleged assailant is now being charged with fatally stabbing Naima Liggon, the slain teen who is also 16-year-old. Liggon was allegedly stabbed in the chest and abdomen by the suspect with a 7-and-a-half-inch pocketknife. The teen was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

The reason for the dispute that led to the shocking incident, as per the police, was the the fast-food restaurant's Sweet 'N Sour Sauce.

Dispute over sauce turns deadly

Detective Brendan Jasper testified that an argument over sweet-and-sour sauce took place among three girls outside a McDonald’s near 14th and U Streets NW just after 2 a.m. Liggon and the third girl began hitting the 16-year-old, who did not fight back.

Security cameras showed that just as Liggon and the third person were about to get into a vehicle, the 16-year-old 'lunged' at Liggon, and stabbed her in the chest.

Prosecutor Priscilla Guerrero underlined,

She was the only person who brought a knife to a fistfight.

DC Superior Court Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur announced that the teenager will remain in custody until next hearing. The judge expressed,

At the end of the day, someone is dead over a dispute over sauce.

Teenager charged with second-degree murder

The 16-year-old, who is being charged with second-degree murder while armed, has pleaded 'not involved,' which is the juvenile equivalent of not guilty.

Sabel Harris, who chairs an Advisory Neighborhood Commission, expressed her shock over the incident and its impact,

It’s horrifying.

I walk by that McDonald’s almost every single day. My mind is just reeling from this.

The incident has left the community, including the victim's school community in deep shock, trying to figure out how to cope with the tragic loss of one of their students, as details about the case emerge.
