Love Island set to have a 'rival' show and fans are excited: ‘What the world needs right now’

ITV bosses officially announced ‘The Romance Retreat’ earlier this year where singletons with normal bodies as opposed to the current Love Island stars with perfect bodies would attempt to find love. This spin-off of Love Island would give a platform to middle-aged people to search for love.

Middle-aged Love Island origin story

ITV announced Davina McCall as the presenter of the show where children over 18 would have to nominate their single parents to find love. The 55-year-old star is exhilarated to be a part of the show for many reasons, one of which is the fact that Love Island for middle-aged people was her idea that she pitched to ITV.

According to Daily Express, Davina pitched the middle-aged Love Island to show bosses 18 months ago. She revealed:

I felt it was so important that I wrote to ITV 18 months ago and I said, “You guys need to do a midlife dating show.” Also, I love Love Island.

The Masked Singer star and fitness entrepreneur added:

My original idea was to keep the Love Island villa going then to fly out myself with a load of midlifers who want to find love.

These are people who have really lived a life and got to a point where maybe they have been single for years or maybe they just got divorced.

Love Island fans are very excited about the new middle-aged version of the show. The current series of singletons in their 20s, however popular, is often slammed by people for its superficiality. Expressing their happiness, one fan wrote:
