Love Island spin-off sparks a new row amongst middle-aged 'single' people who already hate it

After seeing years of young people with perfect bodies take part in a very public journey of finding love, ITV announced a Love Island spin-off for middle-aged people with more relatable life journeys. While the show created a lot of excitement at first, it’s facing severe backlash from people without children. Here’s why!

Love Island slammed by single people

Davina McCall ‘manifested’ her desire to host the spin-off ITV dating reality show. In a recent post on Instagram, she invited people to apply for the show and fans were quick to point out one major flaw in the show format.

Love Island spin-off show is only open to middle-aged ‘single parents.’ Meaning, anyone who’s single and middle-aged but without kids is not welcome to apply. The rule reads:

This is the ONLY dating show where single parents can search for love, by spending time in a luxury retreat, where all the parents have been nominated by their grown up children.

According to Metro News, this information has not gone down well with the viewers.

The Saturdays' Una Healy calls it unfair

Question the rule of the show and challenging authorities that middle-aged people without children also deserve love, one fan wrote:

What about grown up single people that don’t have children? I have single friends in their 40s who would happily like to meet people with kids.

Another two added:

I’m 40 years old. I’ve been single a long time and sadly have never met the right guy or had children. The older people without children deserve to find love too.

This really annoys me because I’m single but not a single parent. I happen to be 53 years old and looking to find someone special. It’s not my fault that I don’t have kids and I’m happy to meet someone who does.

The Saturdays' Una Healy also slammed the Love Island spin-off show for the same reason, confirmed OK! Magazine. Sharing a news article about the show on her Instagram, she wrote:

So anyone ‘middle aged’ without kids can’t apply? This is very unfair in my eyes… either way… I won’t be applying.
