Love Island is still casting for 2021, here’s how the application process really works

If you’re looking to become the next Molly Mae and Tommy Fury, or even if you just want an all-expenses-paid holiday to Spain to hang out with other hot singles, then you’ll be happy to know that Love Island 2021 applications are still open.

Due to the coronavirus, our favourite reality tv show was cancelled this year. And, while the USA and Australian versions of the show were still entertaining, they just didn’t fill the same holes in our hearts.

But, if you think you have what it takes to find love in front of the whole UK, then you can still fill out a Love Island application form here.

ITV states they are looking for:

Vibrant singles from across the UK who want to head to the sun, in search of love. The chosen cast will spend time in a luxury villa, getting to know one another, but to remain in paradise they must win the hearts of the public and their fellow Islanders who ultimately decide their fate on Love Island.

To apply and be on the show you have to be 18 or older, have a valid passport and generally be free for about a year afterwards.

But, as we know many stars never applied to be on the show and were actually scouted. So, here are some other ways you can assure your spot in the villa.

Love IslandCasting Producer, Lewis Evans stated that having a buzzing social media page is also a key part of being cast for the show:

We also cast our net far and wide by looking at social media profiles (Twitter and Instagram) as it’s always quite easy to gauge on there people who are popular, aren’t afraid to show themselves off and have a big following.

Evans also claims that recruiters will go as far as hitting up events across the UK and hold street castings in order to catch the perfectLove Island star:

We also attend events and hold street castings for prospective Islanders. The key is that they are over 18, single and looking for love.

Attending events this year may be a stretch due to the lockdown. But, if you think you could be the next Shaughna Phillips then it’s best to make sure your social media page is active, bustling and shows that you really aren’t shy.

The Process

If you do manage to turn the heads of recruiters - which could be tricky as some results show that over 85,000 people applied for the 2018 season alone - then you will next have to go through a pretty intense audition and interview process.

Evans revealed that Love Island producers are looking for three main qualities in their contestants:

It’s all about having a great mix of desirable, aspirational singletons who have interesting and engaging personalities to keep our viewers glued and entertained by what’s going on in the villa.

What Questions Will Be Asked?

While looking for love may be the main premise of the show, winners will also receive £50,000 to share between them or take for themselves. So, one of the main questions asked in the interview process is whether or not the applicant would choose money over love. Lewis continued:

One of the main questions we ask, from the outset, is if they would choose love or money. It’s always important to us that anyone coming onto the show is open to finding the girl or guy of their dreams.

Meeting Your Perfect Match

After interviewing the chosen applicants and no doubt asking them ‘what their ideal type’ is, surely producers would have an idea of who’s likely to end up with who. But, as Lewis revealed, that’s not actually how it works:

No, that’s the beauty of the show. Anything can happen and sometimes the people who might be a perfect match on paper will end up going for somebody totally different. Of course, you want to put enough a big mix in the villa so that there is something for everyone, but once they’re in there anything can happen.

It looks like all those tall, dark and handsome men may have to watch out after all.

So, to anyone who is still weighing up if they’re willing to be on national tv for six weeks in a bikini, Lewis has just one piece of advice:
