The Sussex couple has arrived in London and is ready for a week full of charity events and more. Here’s what their security looks like.

Prince Harry is in the middle of an ongoing row with the Home Office over the protection of him and his family. The Duke of Sussex wants to still be eligible for Met Police protection, even after stepping down from the position of senior royal. The legal case has prevented him from visiting his homeland, however, now that he’s here to support charities close to his heart – the security arrangements have been revealed.

Private protection

The Suusexes landed on British soil yesterday after flying via a commercial flight instead of their private jet. According to The Sun, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be provided with a ring-of-steel security operation for the One Young World young leaders’ forum tomorrow in Manchester. However, it is understood that the police in Manchester will not be providing officers for their security.

The responsibility of the Sussex couple's security rests in the hands of their own security team and the event organisers’ arranged security team. A Greater Manchester Police source said:

It is my understanding this event is not receiving a dedicated police resource and is being privately secured.

As such, the area outside the 2,300-seater Bridgewater Hall will be vacated an hour and a half before their arrival.

Week-long plans

After the Manchester event tomorrow, the couple will travel to Dusseldorf on Tuesday to mark a year before Prince Harry’s next Invictus Games. Although their official security arrangements for their week-long stay in the UK are still not clear, it is understood that they will be afforded ‘ad hoc security measures.’ A source confirmed:

There is provision for individuals to be protected on an ad hoc basis. We saw when Harry arrived for the Jubilee that he was tailed by the Queen’s own car with security guards.
There is no way anyone would want to let anything happen to either when they are on UK soil.

Meanwhile, on the grounds of Windsor and during their stay in Frogmore Cottage they will fall under royal cops’ protection.
