After 70 years on British Throne, Queen Elizabeth II finally proceeded to her heavenly abode, making Prince Charles the King of England.

After dealing with mobility concerns and health issues, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, in Scotland. She was at Balmoral for her annual summer break and only two days ago appointed Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister. Prince Charles has now been declared the King of England.

And With that, Prince Charles – Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son has now ascended to the Throne and become the King of England. Prince Charles officially became the King of England the moment Queen Elizabeth II died. According to University College London's Constitution Unit, an old common law rule - Rex nunquam moritur – means that ‘the King never dies.’ So the transmission happened the minute the monarch took her last breath.

King Charles said in a statement, as quoted by BBC:

We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the commonwealth and by countless people around the world.

When will he be crowned?

According to the Queen’s death plans – Operation London Bridge – King Charles is supposed to be crowned the king the next day after the Queen’s death. The Queen’s death will be called D-Day, so he is expected to be crowned the King on D-Day+1. Town and Country Magazine have reported that his official coronation may not take place until 'for some months.
