King Charles' coronation: Here's why Kate Middleton may not wear a tiara

King Charles’ coronation is mere weeks away. As such, people are wondering what the Royals will wear on the historic day. We already know that King Charles will wear two crowns on May 6, but what about the other members of the Royal Family?

As of yet, we do not know what Princess Kate will wear for her father-in-law’s coronation. It is tradition for the women of the Royal Family to wear tiaras for coronation ceremonies. Indeed there are a number of tiaras for the Princess of Wales to choose from.

We have seen some of them for Royal weddings, where Princess Eugenie’s tiara overshadowed both Kate and Meghan. So what is this hint that the Princess dropped?

Princess Kate hinted at wearing blue

The Prince and Princess of Wales were in Birmingham on Friday, April 21. Prince William and Kate answered the phone at an Indian restaurant during their visit whilst in fits of laughter.

The Royal couple also met with This Morning host, Alison Hammond for the second time this year. Hammond probed Princess Kate on what will she be wearing for King Charles’ coronation.

As reported by Express, Princess Kate told Hammond that she will ‘wear blue.’ This tiny hint has sent fans on a hunt to figure it out. Some think they know.

Princess Kate may not wear a tiara

After Princess Kate’s hint, people have speculated that the ‘wearing blue’ isn’t going to be her dress, but in fact a tiara.

However, there is speculation that the women, such as Princess Kate and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh may not wear tiaras for the big day, breaking away from tradition once again.

King Charles has been trying to modernise the Royal Family since taking the throne. He may follow fellow European royal families and opt for daytime casual attire for his coronation.

This would mean that instead of the women wearing tiaras, they would simply wear hats. Lauren Kiehna, the expert behind the blog The Court Jeweller, told People:

I'm certainly hoping we'll see coronation tiaras, but it's possible that Charles is following the example of some of his European counterparts, like the King of the Netherlands, and setting a daytime formal dress code for the event.

If Princess Kate does choose to wear a tiara that is blue, she would have the choice between 4 tiaras that feature blue gems: the Modern Sapphire Tiara, the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, the Teck Turquoise Tiara or the Brazilian Aquamarine Parure Tiara.

There is a fifth tiara that features blue gems, the Five Aquamarine Tiara. However, it is unlikely that Princess Kate will wear this one as it was gifted to Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
