A Major Birthday and a Shift in Perspective

When Peter Andre faced his fiftieth birthday, worry set in. As he put it,

“When I was about to turn 50, I was so worried.”

Despite his nerves leading up to the big day, he quickly realised the weight he’d placed on the number was unnecessary. The day after, he breathed a sigh of relief and shared a heartfelt moment with his wife, Emily MacDonagh.

“The day after my birthday, I sighed with relief. I told Emily I could start caring more about things that matter and less about those that don’t.”

For Peter, this maturity means carefully choosing his priorities and focusing on what brings him joy—mainly, his close-knit family.

Why Family Means Everything Now

With six children—Junior and Princess from his marriage with Katie Price, and Millie, Theo, and Belle from his life with Emily—Peter’s home is never quiet. His youngest, Belle, is just 21 months, while Millie and Theo are 12 and 9. Junior and Princess are now grown, aged 20 and 18. But as responsibilities grow and time seems to move faster, Andre admits,

“I still care what my family thinks, that’s what matters most to me.”

The wellbeing of his mother, Thea, is particularly on his mind these days. Living in Australia, Thea is set to turn 90 soon, but she has been struggling after a 2023 diagnosis of both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Her conditions have now taken her voice, robbing her of the ability to respond when family reach out. Peter doesn’t let distance win, though—he keeps in close touch with daily calls to his dad and, tenderly, makes sure his mum hears from him twice each day, even if she cannot answer.

Staying Connected Despite Hardships

Thea’s illness has changed the way the family communicates, but never the feeling behind it. As Peter says,

“I want her to hear me say I love her more than once a day.”

Even Belle joins in, although her chats to her grandmother are little more than sweet babble. Peter observes,

“Belle talks to her once a day, but the saddest thing for me is that Mum doesn’t respond. Belle just babbles words, she can’t really talk yet. It’s the sweetest thing.”

Peter shares this not just for his own sake, but in the hope it helps others in the same situation:

“I hope it might help other families going through similar. Mum has a combination of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.”

Currently, Peter is busy in the UK performing with The Very Best of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tour. The moment he wraps up, he plans to head straight for Australia to be with his family and spend time with his parents—proving once again how important those daily connections are.

The Comfort of Relatable Role Models

Peter’s reflections were spurred partly by comments from actress Halle Berry, who spoke candidly about getting older. Peter highlighted her words:

“It was good to see Halle Berry say she’s got to a point in life where she’s got ‘zero f***s’ to give now because she’s already been through so much.”

With everything he’s facing, the idea of caring less about other people’s expectations, and more about authentic, loving connections, rings truer than ever.
