Joe Biden’s first home in Greenville, Delaware

As per Town & Country, Joe Biden - who had recently become a widower, his first wife, Neilia had died in a car crash with his daughter Naomi in 1972 - bought a former DuPont mansion in Greenville for $185,000, in 1974.

According to Homes & Gardens, Biden bought the mansion after learning it was going to be demolished. When the President purchased the mansion, it was in disrepair and Biden extensively renovated it to its current glory.

The 1930s mansion is equipped with five bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Biden restored three original fireplaces. The outside of the mansion maintains its historic appearance, with a Colonial-style structure, stucco, and a gable roof. Biden also added a sizable pool and a basketball court.

In 1988, his mansion became the headquarters for his first presidential run. In 1996, Biden decided to sell the property for a massive $1.2 million.

Joe Biden’s main residence in Greenville, Delaware

In 1996, Joe Biden bought 4 acres of lakehouse land and built a 6,850-square-foot home, which has become his main residence. According to Zillow, the land was bought for $350,000, and with the home he built, it is now estimated to be worth between $1 to $2 million.

The home boasts three bedrooms with four and a half bathrooms. The home also features a grand fireplace and a signature stucco exterior, as per Homes & Gardens. Moreover, Joe Biden and his family reportedly spend many weekends together as well as summer holidays.

The home also has an attached garage, which is likely used to house Joe Biden’s 1967 Corvette Stingray and there is a chance the President has other impressive cars in his collection.

The land also houses a smaller cottage, which Biden allegedly rented out to the Secret Service for $2,200 to keep his private security while at home.

As per Homes & Gardens, Biden had considered selling his beloved home when his son, Beau was battling brain cancer. However, it is said that former president, Barack Obama offered to lend Biden the money so he could keep his home.

As reported by Homes & Gardens, Joe Biden has another property in Delaware. This time, it is a six-bedroom property in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, which he bought in 2017.

The home costs $2.7 million and is three stories high with 4,786 square feet of living space. Biden’s summer home is one of his newer properties, it was built in 2007. The home has a gorgeous view of the Atlantic Ocean and backs out into the Cape Henlopen State Park, as per Town & Country.

It seems Joe Biden has a love of fireplaces, as his summer home boasts three indoor fireplaces as well as an outside one on the home’s stone patio. The summer house has a wrap-around porch, which leads to the private dining terrace and also features an outdoor kitchen.

The home has five bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The Georgian-style mansion was built in 1919 and is four stories high. It even has modern elevators throughout. The mansion features a climate-controlled wine cellar, private studies, a home gym and a sauna. The home’s driveway can fit 20 cars.

The McLean neighbourhood is no stranger to political figures. Indeed, as per Town & Country, several senators, Supreme Court justices, and diplomats reside in the area, such as former Secretary of State Alexander Haig, who served under President Ronald Reagan. It is also where Jackie Kennedy grew up.

It is said that rent for the five-bedroom home is $20,000 a month. As per Town & Country, it was reported that Biden had stopped renting the home in February 2020.
