Phillip Schofield is set to make a return to TV with a new Channel 5 reality series Cast Away and not everyone is happy about it.

PHILLIP SCHOFIELD THEN VS. NOW

Phillip Schofield, once a staple of British television, has largely been out of the public eye following his highly publicised departure from ITV. His exit, marked by revelations of an affair with a younger colleague with whom he had signed an NDA, led to a significant fall from grace.

Schofield, best known for his long-running roles on shows like This Morning and Dancing on Ice, expressed deep regret about the everything that happened and even revealed that he had been having suicidal thoughts. As he distanced himself from the spotlight, Schofield took time to decide the next chapter of his life.

However, after months of speculation, he is set to return to TV through a new Channel5 series called CastAway.

Phillip Schofield’s new show: Everything we know about it

Schofield - whose company reportedly got a £400k boost despite his scandal - is finally making his return to TV after 16 months of his departure from This Morning. Cast Away is a survival reality series that features him in an isolated and raw environment.

According to Heart, the series is filmed without a production crew or any significant comforts. The show documents him spending 10 days alone on a deserted island off the coast of Madagascar.

The 62-year-old described the experience as not just physical survival but also a deeply emotional journey, reports The Express. He noted:

This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do. It appealed to me on so many levels.

I've recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I've always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me. This time it's just me, no phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury.

The show is set to air on September 30 on Channel 5 and has already generated buzz around it - but not the kind Schofield would like.

Phillip Schofield attacked on his reality series Cast Away

While Schofield is looking forward to his return, GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes and his colleagues have been very vocal about their criticism of him. The Standard shared that Holmes and Schifield have had a tense relationship over the years. Holmes has often been candid about his disdain for Schofield. When Schofield was ‘caught’ for his ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair, Holmes branded him as the ‘ministry of lies.’

After the show’s announcement, it was discussed on the GB News breakfast show with Eamonn Holmes where GP Dr Renee Hoenderkamp remarked:

Is this not just the chance for a narcissist to have more me time on screen?

Adding:

I don't want to know his story, I'm not interested in it. I know that he's a celeb and people do seem to lap up any news, whether it's good or bad but I think it's time maybe he stayed on the island.

As others weighed in on the topic, Holmes remained quiet throughout but ended up bursting into laughter hearing his colleagues’ views.
