Speaking on the radio on 27 December, Slade lead singer Noddy Holder talked about his health. What he shared was unexpected…

Noddy Holder is the lead vocalist and guitarist of the 1970s band Slade. The group was formed in 1966 in a city of the English West Midlands. The four men who met in their town started working together before reaching success in the early 1970s.

However, their success was short-lived. In 1975 they tried to make it to the US but failed and it is reported that it was difficult for the band to come back at the top. That being said, the band faced a resurgence of success in the 1980’s following the 1980 Reading Festival.

Ozzy Osbourne was supposed to perform but stepped out at the last minute. Slade then came in. In the 80s, the band managed to reach success in the US but they split in 1992.

Of course, some of their songs are now classics and many still enjoy their music which was so typical of the 70s.

Noddy Holder’s health update

Daily Mail reports that on 27 December, while speaking to Radio 2, Noddy Holder shared an unexpected health report. The former singer explained that five years ago he was diagnosed with ‘oesophageal cancer’.

However, this isn’t the surprising part as he revealed it back in October. What is next, though, is new. On air he said that, at the time, he was given only six months to live. He expanded:

It was touch and go. I lost all my hair. My weight was down to about eight stone. So every cloud.

Cancer kept secret

Noddy Holder is not the only one who kept his health complications a secret. Indeed, his wife, Suzan Price, did the same. In a column for Great British Life published in October 2023, she wrote:

We told only immediate close family and friends and I will never apologise to those we did not confide in, only to those who were forced to suffer pain and anguish alongside us as we attempted to navigate our way through this new and horrifying world.

Noddy Holder’s revelations follow a hopeful ending to these difficult times. In his interview with Radio 2, the singer explained that his last scan was very positive.

I’ve just had a scan last week and everything’s on an even keel at the moment, so I hope it carries on that way.

His wife also said back in October that Holder kept an optimistic and positive attitude throughout the development of his disease.
