Since Valentine’s Day was approaching, PageGroup decided to conduct a survey about this very idea. Although about a quarter of young people are on dating websites nowadays, how many would actually dare to approach a fiery-eyed colleague?

How many of these relationships work?
The figure is actually higher than what you may think! 62% of people have already taken the leap and 38% are currently in a relationship with someone they met at work. And just like that, nothing is impossible. Although more men than women say they would consider starting a romantic relationship with a colleague (31% vs 21%), it turns out they are less likely to act on it. Actually, among them, only 58% of men have dared to confess how they feel to their colleague instead of the 68% of women who have.

But how can you make the relationship last? Firstly, the advice is to stay discreet. Even if you melt at the sight of your partner, you’re in your place of work and you have to keep your conduct professional. In the same way, when you’re around your colleagues, its preferable to steer clear of personal things – unless you’re quite close with your workmates. Once back at home, you can disconnect. You spend your day at work together, so there’s no need to have a 3-hour rundown of what happened during the day: you were both there at the same time. It’s better to make the most of this space to breathe, find yourself and talk about the juicier things. Whether you’re at work or not, you know there’s only one secret to making it work: keeping the flame alive!
