Researchers from the Texas Institute of Medicine have discovered that peanuts and wine contain important antioxidants such as Resveratrol that help protect the brain and contribute to the prevention of memory problemssuch as Alzheimer's.

Researchers say that simple foods such as some berries, peanuts, red grapes and wine can help prevent the brain from common conditions that occur due to age.

Resveratrol has already shown benefits for the heart. And, the study conducted with aged rats showed that those who were given the antioxidant also showed improvements in learning, memory, mood and function as well as reduced inflammation in the hippocampus. Professor Ashok K. Shetty stated:

The results of the study were striking. They indicated that for the control rats who did not receive resveratrol, spatial learning ability was largely maintained but ability to make new spatial memories significantly declined between 22 and 25 months. By contrast, both spatial learning and memory improved in the resveratrol-treated rats.
