WhatsApp to extend time limits on deletion of sent messages

Instant messaging app, WhatsApp is set to extend the period within which users can delete sent messages. At the moment, if you send an embarrassing or a rushed message to someone or a group, you have only one hour sight minutes to delete it. Once you miss this window, you cannot take back your words.

Meta-owned WhatsApp first introduced the delete feature for sent messages in 2017 with a strict time limit of eight minutes. It was later extended to 1.14 hours. There have been speculations since last year that the company will extend the time further to as long as three weeks. But, technology blog, Android Police reports that the change is being delayed because of hesitations about the proposed length of the extension.

WhatsApp has gained a reputation for taking its sweet time in rolling out new features onto developmental stages, but industry watchers are confident the extension of the delete period could come into effect sooner rather than later.
It will be in the company’s interest to see it through if it wants an edge over major competitor, Telegram which lets users delete sent messages within 48 hours. According to Android Police:
