The mayor Fedorov, citing eyewitnesses, added that Ms Shapurova is alive 'but was scared to death'.

Elena Shapurova in the past was a head of a technical college, and according to Mr Fedorov, she was known for numerous corruption schemes.

When the Russians took over the area apparently Ms Shapurova volunteered to spearhead the occupation education department, which the Mayor described as a 'racist education regime'.

Russia's 'Local top collaborator'

Mr. Fedorov, referring to Ms Shapurova as the 'local top collaborator' said that after the Russian occupation began she had 'found her vocation'. According to Newsweek, the Zaporizhzhia City Prosecutor's Office said, on May 5, that 'Shapurova was suspected of collaborationism.'

According to their investigation, after the Russians seized the territory, in March 'Shapurova volunteered to head the education body'. Her job was to re-organize the education in Melitopol according to 'Russian standards'.

The New Yorker, reported back in May, about the harrowing accounts of school principals in Melitopol who refused to work with Elena Shapurova and her cronies. Resultantly the principals were traumatized and deported from Melitopol by the city's occupying authorities and barred to return to the city.
