The Met Office has just issued a yellow warning for a large part of Britain alerting people of thundery downpours that could lead to flash flooding this weekend.

The agency predicts disruptions to public transport and even power cuts and urges people with pre-existing health conditions and the elderly to be mindful of the risky weather.

Met Office: fast flowing or deep floodwater is ‘possible’
Weather experts are warning Brits that the extreme rain could disrupt their weekend and even impact Wimbledon's schedule.
The yellow alert which came into force at 9am on Saturday forecasts torrential downpours and possible flash flooding.
Active until midnight today, it covers huge swathes of England and Scotland.
Rain and thunderstorms may last way into next week.
They follow Friday's scorching heat where temperatures reached 27-30 C across the country, with London, the South East, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, and Yorkshire having received a yellow heat warninguntil Sunday morning.
More under this adMore under this adThundery downpours are more likely to occur around 5pm on Saturday evening, cooling down the conditions.
The forecast also suggests that frequent lightning, hail and strong gusts could accompany the storms.

Here is how extreme weather could impact you
The Met Office urged people with pre-existing health conditions and the elderly to be mindful of the heat and humid and muggy weather.
They also warned commuters of possible delays and cancellations to rail and bus services in places ‘where flooding or lightning strikes occur’. Motorists could face difficult driving conditions and road closures.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at the UK Health Security Agency, said:
