Those with older Samsung phones might want to think about upgrading as many will be unable to get the latest version of Android.

Millions of Samsung users could miss out on the latest version of the Android operating system unless they upgrade their phones this year. Google'sAndroid 14 – called One UI 6 – is due to be released towards the end of this year and a number of popular Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S20, are unlikely to support it.

The news will be disappointing for many phone users but Samsung does warn that their phones actually only come with three years of guaranteed operating system support and updates.

Samsung phones affected

Here is a list of all the devices that are unlikely to be offered the latest version of Android 14, according to The Mirror:

If you have any of these phones then you may want to think about upgrading in order to get all the new features that the latest operating system will bring. The new version is expected to help improve the efficiency of apps and offer users the option to scale text up to 200%.

Android 14 - One UI 6

The newer operating system will also block older applications from being installed on devices, which is hoped will help reduce the amount of malware circulating, as per Android:

Malware often targets older API levels to bypass security and privacy protections that have been introduced in newer Android versions. To protect against this, starting with Android 14, apps with a targetSdkVersion lower than 23 cannot be installed.

No further information is currently available about the much-anticipated OS but Google plans to reveal more at its yearly I/O conference on 10 May 2023 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.

Samsung is expected to add its own updates via One UI 6 and here are all the devices that are likely to receive it for free.
