Russia's former President shares 'absurd' predictions for 2023

Dmitry Medvedev has shared a long list of surreal predictions for 2023 that include amongst others a civil war in the US, an Elon Musk Presidency, new wars in Europe and a major decline in the West,and more.

'Epic thread'

Dmitry Medvedevshared on his Telegram channel a list of 10 'wild' predictions for the new year which also appeared on his Twitter profile, Newsweek reports.

Before a new year, everyone likes to make predictions.

The list of Medvedev’s predictions includes an Elon Musk Presidency, which unsurprisingly caught the attention of the outspoken billionaire.

Musk retweeted the list, calling it ‘an epic thread’:

War in the West

According to The Jerusalem Post, the list of predictions should be taken seriously because they were also reported by Russian state media, and reveal the ‘mentality’ that guides Russian foreign policy.

Medvedev served as Russia's former President (2008-2012) when Vladimir Putin was the Prime Minister. Now he is the country’s deputy chairman of the Security Council, Reuters reports.

Among the predictions, Medvedev expects the breakup of the European Union, new wars in Europe, another civil war in the US, and a very promising outlook for the fossil fuel industry.

Maria Popova, associate professor of political science at McGill University, says Medvedev has taken an 'extremist' position during the ten months of the Ukraine war:

Medvedev has positioned himself as an extremist, even unhinged, voice during the entire 10 months of the war. He regularly utters outlandish threats, and the goal is to unsettle and scare the West into stopping support for Ukraine.
