Russian military expert urges preparation for a potential war with NATO in spring 2023

Speaking as a guest in a debate on Russian state TV, Konstantin Sivkov, who is a military expert, says war with NATO might begin as soon as the spring of 2023 and according to himRussia must start preparations.

Russia must prepare for a war with NATO

The clip of Sivkov’s commentarywas posted by an advisor of Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Minister on Twitter, Newsweek reports.

SivkovsaysRussia must prepare missiles for the impending war with NATO:

We need to produce more powerful and modern weapon systems, given the inevitability of a clash with NATO in the near future.

Sivkovalso suggests there will be a war because Poland is on the verge of attacking the Russian province of Kaliningrad, which is astandalone territory of Russia sandwiched between Poland and Germany:

Yes. All this is going on. We're talking about the spring period. If Poland goes to Kaliningrad, God forbid, or anywhere else. Poland is openly preparing for that. So the probability of this conflict in my estimation is high.

The province used to belong to Germany in the past, but it was annexed during WWII by the Soviet Union and to this day has remained part of Russia.

Major General Pekka Toveri, a former Finnish intelligence chief, ridiculed Sivkov's suggestion in a tweet in his native language that translates to:

1. The West would win easily; 2. The west does not want Russia’s miserable infrastructure and millions of Russians to support; and 3. Who would we make fun of on Twitter after that.

NATO is following closely the situation on the ground in Ukraine

According to a report by Fox News in September, a retired high-ranking NATO official warned that the Western military alliance should prepare for a war with Russia.

​​General Sir Richard Shirreffwarned that Putin’s losses in Ukraine would push him into a corner and he would likely resort to the use of nuclear weapons, which is why NATO must prepare to face Russia in an all-out war.

According to the NATOwebsite, last week, Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, said in a press conference that Russia is trying to ‘freeze the conflict in Ukraine’:

Russia is trying to freeze the conflict, regroup and launch a bigger offensive later on because Ukraine now has the momentum.

Stoltenbergalso added that it is unlikely that Russia is seeking a peaceful end to the conflict.
