Netflix users warned to turn on important setting immediately to protect their account

It’s easy to think that your accounts are safe these days because you’ve got some elaborate password full of special characters but this is not always the case. Even the most intricate password can be hacked or leaked. The most recent data breach for Netflix was in October 2021 when an employee leaked company data in protest at the Dave Chappelle special, The Closer. Reporting in theFirewall Times,

Netflix was fined $188,000 by the South Korean government – through the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPS) – for privacy violations. The company had collected personal information on approximately 5 million individuals without obtaining proper consent.

What is the Netflix PIN?

Fortunately there are other ways you can protect your account and switching on the PIN setting is one of them.

The Netflix Pin is a four digit code that is used by Netflix and other tech companies to provide further security to your account. When activated, the PIN will be requested whenever you want to access certain profiles associated with an account. This prevents other people using your account and messing up your settings and recommendations.

How to set up a Netflix PIN

1. In your web browser, go to your Account page.
2. Open the Profile & Parental Controls settings for the profile you want to lock.
3. Change the Profile Lock setting.
4. Enter your Netflix account password.
5. Check the box to Require a PIN to access the selected profile.
6. Enter 4 numbers to create your Profile Lock PIN.
7. To require a PIN any time a new profile is added to your account, select Require PIN to add new profiles.
8. Select Save.

Once this is done, your account should be very secure but always remain prudent and keep an eye out for any unusual activity as it could mean your account has been hacked.
