Massive cheese recall issued over listeria infection, here are all the affected products

The Cambridge Food Company is recalling 26 different cheeses due to fears that Listeria monocytogenes could have contaminated some batches. The bacteria can cause a range of flu-like symptoms but in some cases can cause more severe infections and complications such as meningitis. The recall is the latest in a series of recent listeria scares with several cheeses now being recalled over recent months.

The company has warned that the cheeses may have been cross contaminated by the bacteria from another product, Baronet cheese, which was recalled back inMarch. Customers are being advised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) that they do not eat the cheese and instead return the product for a full refund.

The Cambridge Food Company recalled products

The following cheeses have been recalled as a precautionary measure for all use by dates up to and including 14 April 2023 and in quantity size of 1kg and any cut pieces.

Alpencheese,Appleby Red Cheshire cheese, Kirkhams Lancashire cheese, Lincolnshire Poacher cheese, Mayfield cheese, Montgomery cheese, Ogleshield cheese, Old Roan Wensleydale cheese, Old Winchester cheese, Pitchfork Cheddar cheese, Quickies Mature cheese, Ashcombe cheese, Shropshire Blue cheese, Sparkenhoe cheese, Spenwood cheese, T & T Stilton cheese, Westcombe cheese, Young Buck cheese, Beauvale cheese, Bybrook cheese, Cornish Kern cheese, Cropwell Bishop cheese, Dorset Blue Vinny cheese, Duckett’s Caerphilly cheese, Hafod cheese

And also Rachel cheese in the 1.25kg size and any cut pieces.

FSA Risk statement

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the following risk statement, as per the FSA:

The products listed above might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

The recall comes just a week after health officials announced that a Brit had died from listeria in an outbreak linked to contaminated Baronet cheese, as per The Sun.

The Cambridge Food Company is asking all of its customer to check the dates to see if they have bought any of the products affected by the recall.
