If anyone has a flight booked during the period of the website being down it is recommended that they check-in well before the outage. They then have the option of printing out their boarding pass or downloading or screenshotting the pass from the Ryanair app. This avoids a £20 fee for doing so at the airport.

Despite being a budget airline, Ryanair have been known for their expensive extras and the cost of checking in at the airport, without doing so on the website or app beforehand, is £55, as per the Independent. This is often more than the cost of the flight, so it is important to be organised and check-in before leaving home.

Budget airlines struggle

It’s no secret that the aviation industry has had a tough time of late. The pandemic caused huge issues with redundancies due to grounded planes and cancelled flights. The staff shortages still resonate today and in addition to that the rise in energy and fuel prices has caused an increase in costs everywhere.

In August of this year, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary said that the era of cheap flights was over, as per Euronews:

The rising cost of fuel has pushed prices up meaning previous promotional fares that offered trips for as little as €0.99 won't return for a 'number of years'.
