Just When She Thought She Had Overcome the Coronavirus, Doctors Gave Her Some Unexpected News

The COVID-19 pandemic currently has the entire world in a state of emergency. Despite the hundreds of thousands who have been infected and the thousands who have died from the virus, it is still debatable for some as to whether there are enough precautionary measures in place.

The most common symptoms of the coronavirus are a cough, fever and shortness of breath and as we have recently found out, experts have added six new symptoms to the official list including, among others, headaches and muscle pains.

While some people in the world have been lucky enough to have milder symptoms or even not experience them at all, others have unfortunately experienced some quite serious complications that ended up taking their lives.

And the story of one woman named Darlene Gildersleeve is further proof of just how differently the coronavirus can affect different members of the population.

This 43-year-old woman from New Hampshire in the United States and her husband were diagnosed with the coronavirus on 27th April this year. Doctors decided that the couple should self-isolate at home and avoid contact with the outside world so as to prevent the coronavirus from spreading.

Weeks later, and although her husband had considerably improved and recovered, Darlene started to relapse when she thought she had overcome the virus. She began to notice that she couldn’t walk properly, couldn’t sit and couldn’t even hold objects with her hands.

Seeing that her condition was deteriorating, she contacted her doctor via video call who advised her to go to the ER. After carrying out several tests, specialists discovered something rather unusual.

Darlene had actually had two strokes without even realising it as a result of blood clots in her brain that had formed when she had the coronavirus.

Fortunately, doctors managed to treat her and get rid of these blood clots in the hospital. She has since been discharged and is now doing fine!
