Here’s all you need to know about Airbnb’s new safety features for solo travellers

Since the pandemic hit, more and more people have been going on solo trips. To help keep its customers safe, Airbnb has decided to update its safety features and has included special features for solo travellers.

A new type of traveller
According to internal data by Airbnb, the number of solo travellers has gone up. Indeed they found that in 2021, 26% of all nights booked in 2021 were by solo travellers, and more than 50% of nights booked for long-term stays during the first quarter of 2022 were for solo travellers.
More under this adMore under this adThis is likely due to the fact that many people now work remotely, which means that it is easier for them to travel whilst still working.
New safety features
To help keep its solo customers safe, Airbnb announced in a blog post is has created new features explicitly for solo travellers. These features will appear once the booking has gone through and will open up a special page.
More under this adMore under this adOn this page, you will find three new features. First is ‘an expert tips menu’ which will offer you ways to stay safe when travelling alone.
More under this adMore under this adThe second feature is a ‘share where you’re staying’ option. This feature will send your listing address, reservation code, and check-in and check-out dates to whoever you chose.
The last feature is ‘questions to ask your host’ this option will suggest questions you should ask your host in order to have as much information as you can about the place you are staying at and more. For example one of the suggested questions is:

Availability conditions
So far, these new features are for private rooms or shared spaces as reported by BGR, and for now, are only available in English.
