Has a New Coronavirus Symptom Been Identified?

It looks like the coronavirus won't be going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, the way things are going, it could get worse. The virus is constantly changing and can cause a number of symptoms including sore throat, headache, difficulty breathing, fever, and a rash. And, apparently, a new symptom has been identified.

Troubling complications

According to LCI, a patient hospitalized in France reported that he was experiencing an exceptional amount of pain, a symptom that had not previously been identified as a sign of coronavirus infection.

This patient exhibited known symptoms of coronavirus but also had a thromboembolic complication - blood clots. This complication, which was found in the patient's penis, caused priapism, a prolonged erection that lasts more than four hours and isn't caused by sexual stimulation, says LCI.

This complication can be very dangerous and requires emergency surgery. If priapism isn't treated, it can damage the patient's reproductive organ.

Can we really consider this a new symptom?

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine pointed out that this isn't the first reported case of a COVID-19 patient suffering from thromboembolic complications.
