Kamala Harris accused of changing her accent for different audiences

Clips of Harris’ speeches from both rallies were shared online, according to Newsweek. The 'Trump War Room,' an official campaign account, highlighted the differences by posting side-by-side clips of Harris’ speeches, captioned:

Kamala Harris delivers the same exact line in a speech earlier today in Detroit and again in Pittsburgh a few hours later. Let's see if you can spot the difference…

In the videos, Harris is seen saying the following sentence at the rallies that happened within hours of each other, and Trump supporters have claimed that she is using two different accents in each of them:

Harris has been accused of switching accents before

He further pointed out that Harris grew up in Canada, where no one speaks with such an accent.

Harris often refers to herself as a ‘daughter of Oakland,’ the city where she was born and launched her 2019 presidential campaign. However, the reality of her upbringing is more complex, as explained by The Daily Beast.

Harris spent most of her childhood in Berkeley, a neighboring city known for its liberal politics and as the home of the University of California, Berkeley. She lived in various apartments in Berkeley from ages 5 to 12 before moving to Montreal, Canada, with her mother and sister. Harris later returned to Berkeley in her mid-twenties.

However, a DNC video displayed her hometown as the ‘East Bay,’ a term used to describe the large cities across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The New York Times recently highlighted how Harris has distanced herself from Berkeley over the years as she prepared for a political career in California.

Despite her deep roots in Berkeley, Harris' political narrative often centers on Oakland, likely because Berkeley's reputation as one of the most liberal cities in the US may not appeal to all voters.
