Captain Sir Tom Moore has sadly passed away

Captain Sir Tom Moore, who touched the hearts of many last year after raising £38.9 million for the NHS, has sadly passed away after a battle with both coronavirus and pneumonia.

Captain Sir Tom Moore admitted to hospital after testing positive for COVID

The 100-year-old WW2 veteran lost his life after being admitted to Bedford Hospital on Saturday. Captain Moore’s family released a statement to Twitter at the time, announcing that he had caught pneumonia shortly before testing positive for coronavirus. The statement reads:

The medical care he has received in the last few weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible. We understand that everyone will be wishing him well.

People all over the UK are heartbroken to hear about Captain Moore’s passing with even the royal family offering their condolences. The royal’s official Twitter page issued the statement:

The Queen is sending a private message of condolence to the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore. Her Majesty very much enjoyed meeting Captain Sir Tom and his family at Windsor last year. Her thoughts and those of the Royal Family are with them.

‘If you have gone, you have gone’

In a previous interview with The Guardian Captain Moore admitted he wasn’t afraid of the virus claiming that he was just ‘not a worrying sort of person.’ He continued:

I’ve always believed things will get better. The sun will shine again, the birds will sing and we’ll all have a lovely day tomorrow.

Captain Moore also had a brush with death late last year after a nasty fall, revealing that he had a do not resuscitate order set in place. The veteran explained his fearless decision to Piers Morgan:

I have always felt that if somebody is gravely ill and near to death to bring them back for them to die a very unpleasant death, why do that? If you have gone, you have gone.
