Apple: New leak reveals production problems with new iPhone 14 just days before launch

Tomorrow, Wednesday 7 September, Apple will unveil the new iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 Plus, not iPhone 14 Max

In a last-minute leak, it has been revealed that Apple will not release an 'iPhone 14 Max' but an 'iPhone 14 Plus' instead. The iPhone 14 Plus will be the tech giant’s first 6.7-inch sub-$1000 smartphone, as reported by Forbes.

The leak came via a photo posted on Twitter of what appeared to be a genuine iPhone case with 'iPhone 14 Plus' branding. 9to5Mac then investigated and were able to verify the name and instructions given to third-party case makers. 9to5Mac’s José Adorno wrote:

Sources familiar with the matter say Apple has chosen to name the next larger iPhone, the iPhone 14 Plus. In addition, at least since July, iPhone case makers have been told to not use the brand iPhone 14 Max, as it won’t be the actual name of the product.

Indeed, the new iPhone 14 range won’t include a Mini, with the company deciding to focus on the larger models instead.

More affordable than the iPhone 13

Despite claims the next generation of iPhones would be more expensive than the last, TrendForce believes they will actually be $50 cheaper. The iPhone 14 Plus is tipped to be priced from $849, as reported by Forbes. What’s more, the entry-level storage for iPhone 14 Pro and Plus models is expected to double to 256GB. According to the report:

Under pressure from rising global inflation and foreign exchange rates, Apple is expected to adopt a more cautious pricing strategy so as not to affect its sales performance.

It's also believed that the new iPhone 14 Pro will feature bigger batteries, rather than smaller batteries as previously thought, and bigger camera lenses.

On Monday 5 September, just two days before the launch, MacRumors reported that Apple was having problems with the iPhone 14 Pro’s new always-on displays. The source claimed:

[Apple] is reportedly still encountering bugs and is scrambling software engineers from different teams, including the Apple Watch, to finish the always-on display experience before launch.
