During the COVID pandemic, we have seen many strains multiply and branch off, and now a new variant called XBB is standing out as one of the most immune-evasive types of the virus thus far.

According to Fortune, the XBB strain is a combination of two differentomicron variants and has been gaining the attention of medical experts who claim that this strain is proving to be most elusive to our immune system antibodies.

Despite the rise in XBB cases, Singapore’s Health Minister, Ong Ye Kung, said on Monday the country is not subject to a new Covid-19 wave, since only 15% of cases are reinfections, as opposed to a wave that would require at least 50% of reinfections, Fortune reports.

According to Channel News Asia, on Tuesday, The Ministry of Health in Singapore also addressed and dismissed online falsehoods surrounding the XBB variant spreading via the chatting platform Whatsapp.
